Archives of the Crown of Aragon’s Engagement and Initiatives
The Archives of the Crown of Aragon (ACA) have been actively engaging the public with diverse events and initiatives, showcasing their rich historical collections and promoting archival awareness. Here’s a detailed look at their recent activities.
International Archives Week 2024 (June 1-7):
At the outset of the week, the Archives of the Crown of Aragon published detailed information about their participation in International Archives Week 2024, highlighting the significance of archival work.
On June 5, the Archives of the Crown of Aragon published a new document focusing on the consequences of the Treaty of Utrecht (1713), a pivotal event in European history.
Both the document and the events of International Archives Week were extensively promoted on social media platforms, garnering significant engagement from the public.
During the same week, the Archives of the Crown of Aragon organized screenings that explored its European dimension, offering insights into its historical significance and ongoing contributions to archival practices.
On the same note, six guided tours were conducted at ACA’s two headquarters, providing visitors with an immersive experience into the archival facilities and historical collections. This initiative attracted 30 attendees during International Archives Week.
Founded in 1318, the Archives of the Crown of Aragon served as a centralised deposit system for the administrative, economic and political memory of the Crown of Aragon’s monarchy. Over the following centuries, the archives drew their stocks from the documents that were generated by the administrative apparatus of the state and other entities, allowing us today to reconstruct the history of the region and of great events in European history.
The Archives of the Crown of Aragon were awarded the European Heritage Label in 2014.
