The MigratieMuseumMigration in Brussels is known for its efforts to highlight the diverse cultures that make up the city’s population. Recently, the museum hosted two events that emphasized the importance of cultural exchange and the stories of immigrant communities in Belgium: a series of intercultural tea ceremonies and the “On est là” exhibition.

A Cultural Exchange Over Tea

In collaboration with the Chinese ASBL Yellow Vitamines, the museum organized a series of intercultural tea ceremonies. These events aimed to educate attendees about the traditions and cultural significance of tea across different societies.

Open to everyone, the tea ceremonies went beyond just enjoying a cup of tea. Participants learned about the history of tea, the various preparation techniques, and the cultural importance it holds in different parts of the world.

Future plans: “On est là” Exhibition

Running from September 6 to November 6, 2024, the “On est là” exhibition at the MigratieMuseumMigration is another event that will draw attention to the experiences of immigrant families in Belgium. This exhibition focuses on the stories of Turkish and Moroccan families who immigrated to Belgium, offering a poignant look at their journeys, challenges, and contributions to Belgian society.

The exhibition is a must-visit for anyone interested in the themes of immigration and cultural diversity. Through photographs, personal narratives, and historical documents, “On est là” provides an intimate look at the lives of these families, highlighting their resilience and the ways in which they have shaped and enriched Belgian culture.

MigratieMuseumMigration was awarded the European Heritage Label in 2021.
