Cycling through History: connecting communities in Cistercian landscapes

Organized by IKom Stiftland with local partners, this lively cycling event invited families and heritage enthusiasts to explore the monastic landscape along the scenic Vizinalbahn Cycle Path, which winds through Tirschenreuth and the Stiftland region. Along the route, participants enjoyed interactive cultural stations, multilingual digital games, and playful activities such as a children’s fishing game and monk-themed souvenirs. The event combined outdoor fun with engaging insights into the Cistercian legacy, highlighted by the popular mascot Berni.

May 5–9, 2025 | Partner Visits to📍Kostanjevica na Krki and📍Stična

 Project partners from Slovenia embarked on an inspiring journey through key Cistercian sites in Kostanjevica na Krki and Stična. They immersed themselves in the rich monastic heritage through visits to the monastery library, abbey basilica, and scenic hikes along the Cistercian Way. Partners explored pond farming traditions in Tirschenreuth, tasted local fish specialties, and toured regional museums – strengthening cross-border collaboration and shared appreciation of Cistercian culture. The visit highlighted architectural beauty, monastic traditions, and the enduring cultural landscape shaped by the Cistercians, fostering shared knowledge among participants.

May 18, 2025 | Upper Palatinate Day in 📍Tirschenreuth

 Under the motto “Whoever sows the land will reap the Stiftland,” Upper Palatinate Day transformed Tirschenreuth into an interactive adventure village – a vibrant hub of hands-on heritage activities. Visitors experienced activities that brought the history and traditions of the Cistercian monks of the Stiftland region to life, blending education with playful engagement. Activities ranged from decorating plant pots and planting herb seeds to trying to milk a cow and exploring the monks’ legacy through crafts and digital games. The event celebrated the intertwined cultural and natural heritage of the Cistercians, drawing enthusiastic participation and community spirit.
