European Heritage Days 2023 Concludes as New Theme for 2024 Emerges: “Routes, Networks and Connections”

The European Heritage Days 2023 season drew to a successful close after months of vibrant celebrations highlighting Europe's "Living Heritage."

The European Heritage Days 2023 season recently concluded, showcasing Europe’s “Living Heritage” through vibrant events across 48 countries. From mid-August to early November, heritage sites, museums, and landmarks welcomed visitors to immersive experiences showcasing cultural traditions and skills. As preparations begin for the 2024 season, the new theme “Routes, Networks, and Connections” promises to explore the interconnectedness of Europe’s cultural heritage, inviting communities and cultural institutions to delve into diverse historical narratives and connections.

From mid-August to early November, tens of thousands of heritage sites, museums, and landmarks spanning 48 countries welcomed visitors, offering immersive experiences into diverse cultural traditions, practices, and skills passed down through generations. Guided tours, workshops, exhibitions, and performances brought these rich heritage narratives to life, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Europe’s cultural resilience and continuity.

Salome Jamburia, the newly elected Chair of the European Heritage Days National Coordinators Assembly, commended local communities for their enthusiastic participation, emphasizing how their shared stories created a dynamic reflection of Europe’s cultural tapestry.

Already, preparations for the 2024 season are underway, with the announcement of an exciting new theme: “Routes, Networks, and Connections.” This theme promises to explore the interconnectedness of Europe’s heritage, inviting communities, heritage sites, and cultural institutions to delve into the diverse cultural routes, networks, and connections that have shaped the continent’s history and identity.
