European Parliament Delegation visits EHL Site Union of Lublin

On 24 August 2026, Lublin welcomed a European Parliament delegation travelling to Ukraine for an exchange exploring the connections between the city’s European heritage and some of the values at the heart of Europe today. 

Led by MEP Niels Geuking, the delegation was travelling to Ukraine from 24 to 27 August to gain a first-hand understanding of the situation in the country and express support for the Ukrainian people. Before continuing their journey east, the delegation met in Lublin to reflect on the city’s historical experience of European integration and cooperation. 

The meeting took place at the National Museum in Lublin, including a visit to Lublin Castle, part of the European Heritage Label site associated with the Union of Lublin. The visit offered an opportunity to explore the significance of the 1569 Union and its legacy as an important example of political integration, coexistence and cooperation between different peoples and territories. 

The exchange connected this historical experience with contemporary questions surrounding European unity, democratic values, cultural identity and cross-border cooperation. Against the backdrop of the delegation’s onward journey to Ukraine, Lublin provided a particularly meaningful setting in which to reflect on relations between East and West and on Ukraine’s European aspirations. 

The programme also offered the delegation an opportunity to discover Lublin and its European Heritage Label heritage, highlighting how the city’s past continues to provide a space for dialogue about the challenges and opportunities facing Europe today.
