European values at the core: awarded project of the EHL Call for Projects’24 kicks off in Yuste and Almadén

Integrating European values into cultural heritage
As part of the awarded project from the EHL Call for Projects 2024, the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation and Patrimonio Nacional joined forces to organise a high-level meeting focused on how cultural heritage—especially sites holding the European Heritage Label—can be platforms for European values.
Held at the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Yuste in Cuacos de Yuste, the event tackled key questions:
📍 How can heritage sites promote European identity and civic participation?
📍 What role can cultural tourism play in sustainable development?
📍 How can heritage in rural areas strengthen territorial identity?
📍 What tools are most effective to make European values visible and relatable?
The programme brought together stakeholders from across the EHL community, including representatives from other labelled sites (like the Archives of the Crown of Aragon and the Fortress of Sagres), academic experts from the Universities of Extremadura, La Laguna, and Granada, and organisations such as Hispania Nostra, Ibermuseos, and the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe.
