Conference | Museums of the future and copyright: preservation of and access to cultural heritage in the age of AI

On 7 October, the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens will host an event on copyright in the context of cultural heritage, distance education and research. Aimed at Greek museum practitioners, it will address copyright management across the lifecycle of collections, from digitisation and licensing to balancing public access with authors’ rights, and the emerging challenges of Artificial Intelligence.

About the event

With over 300 museums operating nationwide, strengthening copyright literacy and raising awareness of both the legal framework and its day-to-day application is a critical priority.

This event will explore copyright management throughout the entire lifecycle of a collection, focusing on key challenges such as digitisation, licensing, and the balance between public access and authors’ rights. Additionally, the event will touch upon the rising influence of Artificial Intelligence, particularly in relation to the practical challenges it creates for museums.
