Future for Religious Heritage (FRH) has announced the 2024 FRH Conference, “Religious Heritage in Transition: Challenges and Solutions”, which will take place from 22-24 September in Krakow, Poland.

The conference seeks to highlight current initiatives and potential future solutions to ensure that those involved in religious heritage—heritage professionals, academics, policymakers, religious bodies, and European citizens—keep pace with these green, digital, and social transitions.

The conference will cover several important themes.

• Resilient Heritage will look at how current efforts are addressing challenges such as climate change, armed conflicts, migration, secularization, and demographic shifts that threaten the integrity and survival of religious heritage.

• Sustainable Solutions focuses on the long-term sustainability of religious buildings by exploring trends in adaptive reuse, the preservation of heritage crafts linked to religious structures, and ecological sustainability, especially as many religious buildings face closure, neglect, or underuse.

• Digital Futures, addressing the benefits and potential long-term impacts of digital technologies on the study, management, protection, and promotion of religious heritage, particularly concerning traditional crafts.

• Quality of Life and how religious heritage is connected to social, cultural, and spiritual values that significantly affect mental health and emotional well-being.
