From 22 to 24 October, the Palace of the European Commission of the Danube in Galați (Romania) hosted an intercultural exchange with its partner institution, the Vučedol Culture Museum (Croatia). The three-day visit strengthened cooperation within their joint project and created meaningful opportunities for cultural, educational, and professional growth.

The Croatian delegation discovered the heritage and character of Galați, beginning with a guided tour of the Palace of the European Commission of the Danube, a landmark of international cooperation and European values. A meeting at the Galați County Council further explored future avenues for cultural and educational collaboration between the two institutions and their communities.

A highlight of the programme was a workshop on European heritage and shared values, bringing together young participants from Romania and Croatia. They stressed how the exchange fostered mutual understanding, tolerance, and active participation, enabling young people to share ideas and engage in shaping their communities. These activities were designed not only for museum and project specialists but also for the youth who have been actively involved throughout the initiative.

Participants expressed exceptionally positive feedback, praising Galați’s welcoming atmosphere, its living traditions, and the depth of its cultural heritage. Many were particularly impressed by the historical archives preserved in the former Palace of the European Commission of the Danube: documents offering a rare perspective on both local history and Europe’s shared identity.

The visit was made possible thanks to close collaboration with key local partners, including the Galați County Council, the Museum of Natural Sciences, the History Museum, and the “V.A. Urechia” Public Library, as well as transportation partners who facilitated travel along the Danube. Their collective support provided participants with a rich, immersive experience of the region’s cultural landscape.

This exchange not only strengthened the relationship between two European Heritage Label Sites but also reaffirmed the EHL’s mission of fostering dialogue, cooperation, and shared European values across borders.
