In August, the Krapina Neanderthal Museum welcomed participants for its fourth annual ROK workshops, held from August 20th to 24th. This year, the program engaged both adults and children in exploring topics like prehistory, geology, and paleontology through hands-on activities. Participants excavated shell fossils, crafted clay models of prehistoric animals, and even took a field trip to Radoboj to learn about the area’s mineral and fossil wealth. Attendance at the ROK workshops has been strong each year, and this summer was no different. The final day featured a collaboration between the Radboa Museum and the Public Institution “Zagorje Zeleno.” The event also celebrated Bat Night in partnership with the “Tragus Association.”

September kicked off with a busy schedule for the museum. On September 5th, the exhibition “The Krapina Caveman” opened in Tolmin, Slovenia. Just days later, on September 11th, the museum launched another exhibition featuring fossil mollusks from northwestern Croatia. The week culminated with the celebration of International Bat Night on September 13th.

As part of the European Heritage Days, the Krapina Neanderthal Museum, in partnership with the Krapina Tourist Board, is hosting a program to showcase the region’s rich heritage. From September 15th to October 13th, visitors can explore key Krapina sites, including the Old Town, Kneipp Spa, HuĆĄnjakovo, and Dolac, using a special map from the “Viennese Anthropological Society Route.” Additionally, from September 23rd to 29th, the museum will celebrate Ice Age Europe Week, marking the 11th anniversary of the Ice Age Europe Network with a series of engaging activities.

Krapina Neanderthal Museum and the prehistoric site of Neanderthal man Husnjakovo were awarded the European Heritage Label in 2015.
