Opening of the exhibition “Cisterscapes, Cistercian Landscape”
On May 31, 2024, the Galerija Božidar Jakac – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, in collaboration with the Slovene Museum of Christianity, launched the “Cisterscapes, Cistercian Landscape” exhibition. This highly anticipated event, curated by Kristina T. Simončič and Simon Vidic, marked a significant cultural moment by offering an in-depth exploration of the Cistercian monasteries in Slovenia.
It offers an insight into the cultural landscape of both Cistercian monasteries – the former one in Kostanjevica na Krki and the still active one in Stična – and presents its main features in thematic sections. These institutions, both integral partners in the Cisterscapes project, had devoted substantial effort to highlight the cultural and historical importance of Cistercian landscapes. The content of the exhibition has been built up over several years during the Cisterscapes project, and all the data obtained have been entered into an international online database. The exhibition is complemented by museum objects related to the two abbeys.
The exhibition will be open to the public at the Galerija Božidar Jakac until 31 December 2024 and will move to the Slovene Museum of Christianity in September 2025.
Over the summer, both institutions invite the visitors to see exhibitions and hike the Cistercian Way. For further information, please check the official websites.
Cisterscapes – Cistercian Landscapes Connecting Europe (Austria, Czechia, Germany, Poland, Slovenia) were awarded the European Heritage Label in 2023.
