Sagres Fortress Hosts Inaugural Rose of Times Event
In July, the historic Fortress of Sagres became the backdrop for the inaugural “Rose of Times: Crossed Orientations in Heritage of Freedom” event, a new initiative focused on exploring the importance of intercultural dialogue in both history and contemporary society. This event, which brought together music, art, and thought, marked the beginning of a series dedicated to examining how different cultures have influenced and shaped each other over time.
“Rose of Times” aims to highlight the intersections of different cultures and their impact on the world we live in today. Through music and discussions, the event sought to create a space where participants could reflect on the role of cultural exchange in promoting freedom and understanding across different societies.
One of the highlights of the event was an artistic residency titled “1524: The Indian Rhino.” This residency served as a creative exploration of historical and cultural connections, culminating in the presentation of two distinct concerts.
The first concert featured Ensemble Med and special guests, delivering a performance that blended various musical traditions, reflecting the fusion of cultures that “Rose of Times” seeks to celebrate. The second concert shifted focus to Indian music, with a duo of sitars offering a mesmerizing performance that transported the audience to the rich musical heritage of India.
