Successful concert in support of the Franja Partisan Hospital

On Saturday, 22 June 2024, the Municipality of Cerkno, the Idrija City Museum and the Cerkno Tourism Institute held a concert in support of the Franja Partisan Hospital entitled Brothers, Let's Sing.

On Saturday, 22 June 2024, the Municipality of Cerkno, the Idrija City Museum and the Cerkno Tourism Institute held a concert in support of the Franja Partisan Hospital entitled Brothers, Let’s Sing. Around 1200 visitors and almost 200 performers gathered on the main square in Cerkno on a hot afternoon.

The concert was attended by the Cerkno Brass Band Association, Coro Popolare della Resistenza, Marjetka Popovski, Zven Male Vocal Group, Partisan Choir, Pinko Tomažič Partisan Choir of Trieste, ŽePZ “Cerklanke”, Zimzelen NG Female Vocal Group. The local singers were accompanied by Pavel Magajne on the accordion from Franja. A large number of flag-bearers, commanded by Darko Svetičičič, and members of the First Memorial Dolenjska Partisan Battalion also gathered.

The audience was addressed by the Mayor of Cerkno, Gašper Uršič, and the Director of the Idrija City Museum, Dr Miha Kosmač. In her speech, the President of the Republic Slovenia, Dr Nataša Pirc Musar, the speaker of the ceremony, emphasised that “the Franja Hospital is one of the identity anchors of Slovene identity. It is an anchor for all of us. An anchor that cannot and must not be uprooted even by the great force of nature.

The selfless mission of all those who worked in the Franja Partisan Hospital must be remembered forever. Doctors, nurses and others provided help to the wounded, the weak, to all in need – regardless of nationality, language, religion or worldview. Franja is a symbol of integration, cooperation, solidarity and humanity. That is why it must stand and remain in its original place.”

The concert was moderated by Tjaša Jurman, who interwove the message of Franja’s values into the partisan songs. The event highlighed that Franja Partisan Hospital is an EHL  holder and an important part of Europe’s heritage.

In addition to the staff, many volunteers and organisations took part in the organisation, promotion and realisation of the event. In total, we raised € 10.000,85. Thank you all!
