Trentino Students Showcase Women Leaders in New Exhibition
“Facciamo Democrazia,” a collaborative project between the Fondazione Trentina Alcide De Gasperi and the middle schools of Strigno and Tesino in Trentino, Italy, has successfully concluded its school-year activities with an inspiring exhibition. The initiative, aimed at igniting passion for democracy, participation, and citizenship among students, culminated in an engaging display that highlights influential women in the history of the European Union and the Italian Constitution.
Throughout the school year, 230 students from 12 classes participated in workshops and lessons that took place in the very region where Alcide De Gasperi, a pivotal figure in European history, was born. The project sought to make the principles of democracy come alive for the children who live and study in this historically rich area.
The resulting exhibition features 12 portraits of leading women, each accompanied by a QR code that allows visitors to listen to the stories narrated by the students involved in the project. This blend of creativity and civic engagement not only educates but also honors the often-overlooked figures who have shaped history.
Currently displayed in a local library, the exhibition has garnered significant interest from the community. The project’s success is a testament to the collaboration between the Foundation and the schools, with a strong emphasis on community involvement, including support from local municipalities and libraries.
The exhibition is set to tour throughout the summer, offering more people the chance to engage with these inspiring stories. As the current project wraps up, organizers are already brimming with ideas for the coming school year, aiming to continue fostering a deep appreciation for democracy and civic responsibility among young students in Trentino.
