Turaida Museum Reserve Hosts Discussion on Cultural Accessibility
On Friday, September 13, as part of the European Heritage Days, a discussion was held in the Turaida Museum Reserve on the topic “Turaida Museum Reserve – an open and accessible cultural space for learning and creativity.”
The Turaida Museum Reserve not only preserves and studies the cultural and historical heritage, it is an excellent environment for new projects, where the transfer of cultural heritage, dialogue, learning, discussions take place.
The museum, in cooperation with the public, especially children and young people, wants to promote interest in history, improve public awareness of the value of cultural and natural heritage, promote the spread and availability of accumulated knowledge, promote regional studies and be a support for teachers in the implementation of the curriculum.
Psychologist Diāna Zande, Iveta Hamčanovska, deputy director of the Sigulda county library, Pēteris Kaļva, an engineering teacher at the Sigulda city secondary school, and Edgars Bajaruns, director of the Sigulda Technology Education Center, took part in the discussion.
Additionally, from September 11-13, representatives from the Turaida Museum Reserve participated in the XXXVI General Assembly of the Association of Castles and Museums Around the Baltic Sea in Rakvere, Estonia. They presented a report titled “Inspired by Signs on the Bricks, or David of Turaida Castle” at the international conference “Our Secret Objects.”
The Historical Centre of Turaida was awarded the European Heritage Label in 2021.
